The Need For Self-Defense For Women

By Personal Security Editor

As this article explains, there's a real need to streamline the self-defense industry, especially when it comes to the issue of self defense for women ...

Every two minutes, a woman gets raped in the United States. 17% of those victims know their attackers. Violence against women has a different set of issues than that of violence against men, and there is a need to streamline self-defence courses and security devices to address these differences. Even though there are many courses on the market for women, some don't address female stature and size properly, or that attackers are often stronger and bigger than their victims. There's a real need to streamline the self-defense industry.

The experts in the field point to the very thing that's supposed to pump us up and protect us in times of fear and danger: Adrenaline. It's the hormone that plays a central part in the body's reaction to a stressful environment by dilating the pupils, increasing the heart rate, and raising the blood sugar level. Traditionally, it's been widely accepted that increased rates of adrenaline heighten our ability to respond to threatening situations, and that a good jolt of adrenaline increases our physical reaction times and strength. An adrenal reaction to a threat can't be stopped. Even an experienced black belt can do nothing to avert the hormone's effects during an attack. These facts tie in with most of the self-defense training for women.

Self-defense courses are common and try to teach women ways to fight off attackers. However, many of the techniques taught are being put to question. Professionals in the self-defense field are now saying pressure points and joint locks common in self-defense courses require too much training and are too complicated to use effectively when adrenaline kicks in. They argue these types of holds are useless against most attacks and take too long to learn.

So, defense for women has taken on a new tact. The latest courses available promote the art of using verbal and spatial skills in preventing possible aggressors from becoming physical. Self-defense has taken on a proactive angle. The new way even teaches the art of averting a verbal attack before it becomes physical and offers techniques for getting away from non-life threatening 'annoyance' attacks. The new systems even teach 'consistency training', or how to manage those adrenaline rushes so they don't get the better of you in a threatening situation.

Of course, these self-defense systems also teach some of the traditional lessons, like targeting strategic areas if all else fails, and the best way to use a strike that will stop even the biggest attacker dead in his tracks. These courses teach techniques handy in a modern world, too. They'll show women the best way to resist a car jacking and what to do if your attacker is on top of you with your back to the ground. What is most important to remember is that some form of knowledge is always the best defense against an attack.

Evil lurks in the darkest places. In a van next to your car at the mall or behind a bush on your favorite jogging path, an attack can happen unexpectedly.

In some life and death situations a split second is all you have. How do you defend yourself? With a gun? What if you miss or what if the attacker surprises you? Or worse yet, in a moment of panic you mistakenly shoot an innocent person.

The damage from a gun is permanent and often times ineffective during a struggle. The Scorpion 200 could mean the difference in saving your life because it gives you two powerful "non-lethal" defence mechanisms in one. Paralyze them with 200,000 volts or blind them with pepper spray. If you're fortunate enough to spot an attacker from afar you can temporarily blind them with an accurate liquid stream of fire from up to 6 feet away.

In most cases when an aggressor surprises you and gets close it's over. The Scorpion gives you a fighting chance. Most standard stun guns only give you the power to momentarily disorient an attacker. The Scorpion's 200,000 volts of power will put an attacker down and keep them down for nearly 30 min.

When it comes to your personal safely you never want to take any chances. This is the most powerful non-lethal self-defence device on the market. It's solid and lightweight with a grip able to comfortably accommodate small or large hands. The Scorpion is made in Eastern Europe and is standard gear for many top police agencies in some of the world's toughest neighborhoods.

You, your wife, girlfriend, daughter or anyone you care about should never be alone without this vital self-defence weapon.
