If you want to know something about someone else, such as criminal history, tax lien history, or even marriage information, you can search county public records to find that information. The information is free and it can be searched and found by pretty much anyone. But what if you’re the one being searched? Is there any way to block those records from your local county so that nobody else can search them? The only way you’d likely be able to block county public records that you don’t want anyone else searching is by getting a legal injunction to have those records made unsearchable. And even then, you’ll probably need good reason to do so. The county public records are searchable because they’re not serious enough to block by legal action. The courts and the lawyers will only block these records pending a legal investigation.
The Courts
The courts in pretty much every county are very backed up. It’s not likely that they’ll want to waste their time having your county public records blocked. You would need very good reason to have these things blocked. But it can be done. You would have to file a petition with a lawyer or through the courts to have your county public records blocked. This can be done if you have a stalker, or a vindictive ex and you don’t want them knowing where you now reside or anything else that could lead them to you. In such situations, the county public records can be made unsearchable because it’s a danger to your life.
You Must Do The Work
Just realize that the only person who has a vested interest in having those county public records blocked is you. That means that you’re going to have to do all the legwork and you’re going to have to do all the follow up to make sure that the county public records are in fact blocked. If you just make a request and then leave it alone, chances are the work is not going to get done or your request is going to be put on the backburner until someone gets around to it.
What’s Out There?
So what kind of county public records are out there in your name? What can people actually find out about you? The only way to find out is to do a request of all the county public information in your name. You’ll likely be very surprised at what people can learn about you by searching these records. As scary as that may be, just realize that you’re not alone. What people can find out about you by searching county public records, you can turn around and find the same things about them.
