Some Thoughts About Using A Cell Number Directory

It is difficult to find a reliable and credible cell number directory because people highly value the privacy that comes along with getting a wireless service. Unlike landline numbers, cell phone numbers are unlisted and anonymous. In fact, you even need to pay to have cell phone numbers listed in the Yellow Pages. As such, the thought of a cell number directory has alarmed a number of people who fear that this could make them the target of annoying telemarketers once again.

What is the Purpose of a Cell Number Directory?

A cell number directory intends to serve as a record of all the cell phone numbers in use in a given area or vicinity. It is supposed to work as a regular directory, wherein people will be charged a fee to get their numbers unlisted. Both individuals and small companies who rely solely on cellular phones as their means of communication will be affected by this directory.

But any plans and proposals for a directory of cellular phone numbers have been met with much opposition. Since wireless services include charging for both incoming and outgoing calls, it will be very costly for the owner of the number to receive unsolicited phone calls. Aside from this, most cellular phone users are prone to changing their wireless service frequently so there would be a need to constantly update this list to keep it current.

The closest that wireless providers have come to offering a cellular phone directory is through a directory service. If you want to know a particular number, you will need to pay a small fee to get it. However, this service does not include a published list of all of the numbers included in it. In fact, all the cellular phone users included have the option of being involved in it or not. Aside from this, these numbers are not available to solicitors and cannot be sold in its entirety.

Currently, the United States government has been working to prevent any breaches in privacy as a result of a cell number directory or service. However, for every legislation proposed, there seems to be one countering it… so stay tuned!
