Private investigation is a very popular business that is growing by leaps and bounds everyday. With crime shows dominating the television networks, the world of private investigation has become big business. No longer can a person start their own firm and not expect to have any competition. Almost every town and community has some sort of private investigator. However, before one commits to such an involved profession, they must first know just what exactly they are going to be getting themselves into.

Although people who work for a private investigation service today are on the right side of the law, when the profession began in 1833, it was started by a French criminal. When he started, Eugène François Vidocq hired ex-cons to do his dirty work. However, criminal investigation has many aspects that can be attributed to Vidocq, such as record-keeping, criminology and ballistics. In the United States, Allen Pinkerton began his own private detective service that helped foil a plot to assassinate the future president, Abraham Lincoln.

The world of private investigation is made up of many different people from various walks of life. The most common types of individuals who do well in this field are those who have backgrounds in the military or law enforcement. However, if a person is seriously considering taking on private investigation as a full time job, then they would be wise to spend a few hours researching the topic, either at the library or on the internet. A person must be willing to work anytime or anywhere if they want to be a successful private investigator.

Those who choose private investigation as a profession are among the few who are willing to do more for the good of humanity. For those who want to work for private investigation agencies, many choices are available. Private investigation firms are always looking for people to help with the ever expanding business of private investigation.
