When all you have is a telephone number, a free reverse telephone lookup gives you the chance to know the identity of the person. Although there are numerous tools on the Internet that can be used for this purpose, not all of them are free. Some companies will charge a minimal fee for the free reverse telephone lookup that they do for you.

How to Conduct a Free Reverse Telephone Lookup

The first step is determining whether the telephone number that you have is for a cellular phone or for a landline. There are actually websites that can do this for you. Sometimes the area code and the wireless provider code are included in the number, which can be excellent indications of the kind of number that it is.

You can also use the tools already available at your disposal such as search engines on the Internet, like Yahoo or Google. You simply need to type in the number in a designated format. If the number is listed, the search engine will be able to provide a name and address that corresponds to the number that you have given.

Keep in mind though that this method will only work for those numbers that are listed in databases, directories or other sources of information. It also assumes that the number is still in use. Aside from that, search engines will give you the name and address of the person to whom that number is listed for, but since it is possible that fraudulent information was provided in the first place, you need to verify the data that you have obtained through other sources.

If you do not turn up with any information through a search engine, then you can go to a company that will do a free reverse telephone lookup. Another more expensive option would be to hire a private detective to do the dirty work for you. Since most private detectives are paid on an hourly or daily basis, the expenses will be considerable, but this person will be dedicated solely to finding out the information that you will need.
